Heart Music Rhythm Soul is a screenplay in development, based on States of Matter, an original musical of mine which first took to stage in 2000, and is currently going through a process of rewrites. The story is (very) loosely based on the real-life events leading up to States of Matter’s first (and, to date, only “full”) production, and is intended in part as a tribute to the work and energetic contribution made by the many beautiful souls who came together to beat the odds and put on a show under some of the most unlikely of circumstances.

Heart Music Rhythm Soul tells the story of Jay Ferris, a college junior and consummate classroom dodger, whose academic life is on the brink of permanent collapse. Rather than face the reality of his imminent suspension due to consistently poor grades, he devises an elaborate scheme in an attempt to woo the academic board to reconsider their decision to issue his leave of absence.
